Medical Assistant Salary and Jobs Data for California


California State SealThere is a lot of god news if you’re looking for a medical assistant job in California. The state ranks #1 in jobs. It also ranks 7th in average annual salary for medical assistants.

While these are high rankings they really should be surprise to anyone. California is both a very populous state as well as a geographically dispersed state. There are several population centers that have significant job opportunities.

As the chart above shows, The Los Angeles and surrounding areas have the highest employment of medical assistants. This is followed by San Francisco and San Diego. At the other end is Yuba City, Napa, Hanford-Corcoran, Madera-Chowchilla and El Centro with the fewest number employed.

When it comes to the average salaries in the state the rankings are significantly different. Vallejo-Fairfield is on top with an average annual salary of $47,430. This is significantly higher than in other parts of the state.

Next comes the San Francisco area, Santa Rosa, Santa Cruz and the San Jose area. It is interesting to note that Napa which ranked in the bottom five in terms of employment, ranks number seven in average salary.

California has one of the widest ranges of salaries across the state. It goes from $47,430 in Vallejo to $24,530 in El Centro. This speaks to the wide diversity in the state both from population dispersion as well as in per capita income.

Overall there is no shortage of opportunities in California. There is a large employment base in the medical assisting field and good salaries available. This is especially true if you are in the larger population centers in the state.

It’s important to remember to take these numbers as guides when you are looking for a job. Salaries can vary significantly depending on the specific job responsibilities and by the type of  facility. But hopefully this will give you some idea what to expect in your area.
