Medical Assistant Salary and Jobs Information for Illinois

Illinois – the Land of Lincoln – ranks 8th among the states for the level of employment. Most of that as you would expect, is found in Northern Illinois around the Chicago area. For the state as a whole medical assistant employment stands at 18,420.

As far as salary goes – Illinois ranks 20th among the states.  The statewide average annual salary is $31,320.

As you can see the greater Chicago area leads the employment statistics. There are actually three views of the Chicago area. The largest area includes Northwest Indiana and Southeast Wisconsin. This is the largest area with the highest employment of medical assistants.

The other views of the Chicago area are the Chicago-Naperville-Joliet corridor with employment of just over 12,500 and the Lake County-Kenosha County area at 1,160.

The next largest area is the St Louis- East St Louis area at just under 5000 jobs. At the bottom of the list are the Decatur, Kankakee and Danville areas.

When you look at the average annual salaries for the state you see something interesting. The highest average annual salary is in the Rockford area at $32,610. This is not what people would normally expect. You wouldt expect the Chicago area to have the highest average salaries in the state but this is not so.

The lowest average salaries will be found in the area around Cape Girardeau-Jackson MO-IL. Illinois has several areas that overlap with bordering states.

The range of average salaries across all the areas in the state is fairly wide from $22,480 – $32,610. This clearly indicates that location can have a significant influence on the salary you can expect to find in your job search.
