Medical Assistant Jobs and Salary Data for Kentucky

The data presented here is from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics May 2012 – the most recent data available.

Kentucky ranks 26th among the states for medical assistant employment at about 7100 jobs. That’s right in the middle. But for average annual salary statewide, Kentucky ranks only 43rd with an average annual salary of $27,040. So while there are a good number of medical assistant jobs in and around the state the average salary of those jobs is among some of the lowest.

The Cincinnati-Middletown area has the highest employment area. It has 4,640 jobs. But as you can tell this takes in the surrounding metropolitan area outside of Kentucky itself. This is followed by the Louisville-Jefferson County area with 2,540 jobs. Again this takes in some area outside of Kentucky.

At the other end there is Owensboro and Elizabethtown with the lowest employment levels at 200 and 120 respectively.

When you look at the annual average salary in the state, the Cincinnati-Middletown area has the highest average at $29,560. The Louisville area which was second in the number jobs drops to number four in rank for average annual salary at $28,190.

The Evansville area is second at $29,290 and Lexington-Fayette area is third with an average salary of $28,620.

Elizabethtown and the Huntington-Ashland area are at the bottom of the state salary range with $23,800 and $23,760 respectively. You can see the average salary spread across the state is fairly narrow.

You also need to remember that these numbers are estimate and will vary over time. Also the factors that determine the specific salary offered for any given job are many. So you could in fact see a wide variation from these estimates from job to job in your search.
