Medical Assistant Salary and Jobs Data For the State of Maine

Maine State SealFor those of you who are currently looking or maybe thinking about looking for a medical assistant’s job in Maine, take a look at this recent information from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. It will give you some idea of what to expect as you begin your job search.

The State of Maine ranks 38th among the states for medical assistant employment. The state has around 2800 medical assistant jobs.

In terms of average annual salary, the news is better. Maine ranks 21st among the states for average annual salaries.


The Table below provides more detail on both employment and wage levels in the state. It breaks employment and salary data out by five metropolitan areas and two areas outside the metropolitan areas.

The Portland-South Portland-Biddeford area has the largest number of medical assistant jobs in the state at just over 900. What’s interesting is that the Southwest area of Maine, outside the metropolitan areas has almost the same number of jobs.

At the low end is the Lewiston-Auburn area with just over 200 jobs and the Portsmouth area at about 100.

Looking at the average annual salary information, you notice there is a very narrow range across all areas. The Rochester-Dover area has the highest salaries at $32,770. Keep in mind here that this area takes in a part of both New Hampshire and Maine.

Of the metropolitan areas the Lewiston-Auburn area has the lowest average annual salary at $29,430.

With a narrow salary range such as found in Maine, you would expect to find reasonably comparative salaries throughout the state as you do your job search.

Always remember that these statistics are estimates and the salary for any one job my vary quite a bit. To put you in the best position for that new job, do some work to present yourself in the best way possible to potential employers. This means you have to spend the time to make yourself look good on paper. Put together a strong resume and cover letter. This will get prospective employers’ attention and get you that all important interview.
