Medical Assistant Job and Salary Information for Missouri


Missouri State SealOver all, the “show me” state ranks near the middle of the 50 states in medical assistant employment and average annual salary. Total estimated employment in the state is just over 9200 jobs. That ranks 20th among all states.

It has an average annual salary of $28,180. This puts it in 38th place among all states. So if you are looking for employment or wanting to make a change, the employment numbers in Missouri should give you some encouragement especially when you take into consideration the expected growth in medical assisting jobs over the coming years.

 

To really understand job and salary opportunities across the state you need to look a bit deeper. The table below breaks out the state employment and salary data into nine metropolitan areas and four other geographic areas outside the metropolitan areas.

As far as employment goes, the St. Louis metropolitan area ranks the highest in the state with almost 5000 jobs. The Kansas City area is next with just over 3200 jobs and Springfield is third with 760.

At the other end of the ranking is Jefferson City and St. Joseph each with about 150 jobs. Outside the metropolitan areas the Southeast portion of the state has the highest employment with about 550.

For Average annual salaries the rankings are a bit different. The Kansas City area instead of St. Louis is in the top spot. Its average annual salary comes in at $31,410. St. Louis is at $28,710 in the 4th spot. The North nonmetropolitan area of the state has the second highest average salary at $30,000.

At the other end, Springfield and Cape Girardeau have the lowest salaries of any of the metropolitan areas at $24,360 and $22,480 respectively.

So you will probably find some significant variations in salaries when you’re in the job market. But these numbers being the latest available should give you some idea of what to expect.
