Medical Assistant Salary and Jobs Data for New Mexico


New Mexico State SealHere is the latest salary and jobs information for the state of New Mexico from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. New Mexico ranks 31st among the states for the number of medical assistants currently employed. Given the population of the state it is probably not a surprise that the employment level is in the lower half of the 50 states. Overall employment stands at just over 5000.

For the average annual salary New Mexico ranks 38th among the states. Statewide the average annual salary is $28,220. But to understand the true picture of employment and salary data you need to look at various regions with in the state.

It would again be no surprise that the largest concentration of medical assistant jobs is located in the Albuquerque area. Albuquerque is the largest city in the state. The employment level stands at just under 2900 jobs. After that, Las Cruces, Santa Fe and Farmington follow with jobs at 560, 320 and 250 respectively.

Outside of the major cities the highest level of employment reported is Eastern New Mexico with employment at 730 jobs.

When you look at the breakout of average annual salaries you get a different picture. The highest salaries in the state can be found in the Santa Fe area at $32,190. Albuquerque which had the most jobs is fourth in salary level at $28,010 which is slightly below the state average.

After Santa Fe comes the Las Alamos area. While there was no employment data reported, the average annual salary reported was $29,800.

The lowest salary was found in the Southwestern part of the state at $25,800. The state shows a fairly significant range of salaries from the high of $32,190 in Santa Fe to the low of $25,800. This shows that the highest paying jobs aren’t found in the largest city and that where you are employed can significantly affect the salaries paid.

Keep in mind that these numbers are estimates and they do change over time. Use them as a guide as to what you can expect in your job search. Take the time to get the right medical assistant training and present your qualifications with a well written resume. Taking the time to do this will pay off in the long run.
