Medical Assistant Salary and Jobs Information for Ohio

Ohio State SealThere is good news if you are looking for a medical assistant’s job in Ohio. The state ranks 5th in the country for the number of people employed as medical assistants. Employment stands at almost 22,550 jobs. This should provide many opportunities for finding better job opportunities for current job holders as well as new entrants to the profession.

The average annual salary across the state is somewhat lower than other states. Ohio only ranks 40th for average annual salary.  The statewide average salary is $28,040. This may seem disappointing but you need to look at more detailed state information to get a good picture of the job and salary situation for the state.

For employment, the Cincinnati-Middletown area has the highest employment of medical assistants at just over 4600. You will notice this does take in part of Kentucky. In second place is the Cleveland-Elyria-Mentor area with 4200 jobs.

On the other end of the scale the Steubenville-Weirton area has the fewest jobs at about 100. The Lima, Mansfield, Springfield and Sandusky areas also have relatively few medical assistants employed.

The highest salaries will be found in the Columbus area at $29,800. The Cincinnati area which had the highest number of jobs is only slightly lower at $29.560. The top four cities – Columbus, Cincinnati, Toledo and Dayton all have average salaries that are very close.

On the other of the salary scale is the Parkersburg-Marietta-Vienna area with an average salary of $23.060. There is over a $6,000 dollar range across the state from the highest to the lowest. This clearly shows where you are employed or looking for a job will probably make a difference in the pay level.

As with any data like this it is important to remember that these are estimates. You may find in your own job search a significant variance in salaries. Just remember – do everything you can to stand out and get noticed. This means getting the best medical assistant training you can. Get that certification to stay ahead of the competition. Finally take the time to prepare a great resume and cover letter. The time you spend will pay dividends in the long run.
