From the employment perspective, the Portland-Vancouver-Hillsboro area has by far the highest level of medical assistant employment. This does overlap with the State of Washington. Employment there stands at 4,720 jobs. The next highest area is The Salem area but its number drops to 840 jobs.

The Corvallis area has the fewest number of medical assistant jobs at about 140. This is one state where it is quite clear where the vast majority of the jobs are located. This doesn’t mean however, it will be impossible to find jobs outside the Portland area.

Looking at the average annual salaries, the highest are found in the Bend area. Here salaries average $34,860 per year. Yet this area has only about 430 medical assistants employed. The Portland area has the second highest salaries at $34,620 – almost identical.

The lowest salaries will be found in Corvallis and Medford at $32,320 and $32,230 respectively. If you are looking for jobs outside the major cities, the highest salaries will be found in Eastern Oregon where they stand at about $33,110 on average.
