Medical Assistant Salary and Jobs Data for South Dakota


South Dakota State SealSouth Dakota is a small state in terms of population so you would not expect there to be a large number of medical assistant jobs in the state. In fact, South Dakota ranks 46th in the country for medical assistant jobs with about 1100 currently.

From a financial standpoint the state ranks about the same for average annual salaries. It is currently ranked 45th with average salaries of $26,840 across the state.

The most jobs will be found in the Sioux Falls area which has about 500 medical assistant jobs. The Sioux City and Rapid City areas are next with about 240 and 140 jobs respectively. It is interesting to note that the Eastern South Dakota nonmetropolitan area actually has the second largest number of jobs after Sioux Falls with about 270.

From an average annual salary perspective the Sioux City area has the highest salaries at $27,630. Although if you look across all the reporting regions you will see that there is very tight salary range. This is probably due to some extent by the relatively small number of jobs in the state compared to many of the larger states.

With all numbers like these you have to use them only as a guide as to what you might find in your job search. There are many factors that can affect the pay level of any particular job you may find. So the best thing you can do to get the job you want is to be well prepared.
