Medical Assistant Salary and Job Information for Texas

Texas State SealMedical assistant jobs in Texas are very plentiful. Texas ranks 2nd in the country for medical assistant employment according to the latest information from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Only California has a higher employment level.

When you look at the average annual salary data the story is different. Texas ranks overall at number 36 for average medical assistant salaries at $28,270. But these statewide numbers don’t depict the diversity in the state. With a state like Texas you have to look at different cities and regions with in the state to get a true salary and jobs picture. It varies considerably.

It will be no surprise that the Dallas-Fort Worth area employs the most medical assistants at around 14,700. Houston comes in second at about 12,500 and San Antonio is third with about 5,500 jobs.

At the other end of the employment scale are locations like Wichita Falls, Victoria, Sherman, Abilene and the Texarkana area.

Now look at the average annual salaries across the state. The first thing you see is a very wide range in salaries. The highest salaries are found in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. This is probably no surprise. Salaries here average around $31,000. Houston comes in second at $30,000.

At the other end you find the McAllen area and Laredo with an average annual salary around $20,000. This clearly shows how much difference the location of the job can make in Texas.

But treat all these numbers only as a guide as you plan your job search. There are so many different things that affect the salary of any specific job you may well find considerable variation from these numbers.

Prepare well for your job search with a good resume and cover letter. And make sure you get that medical assistant certification. The job market is getting very competitive – especially in the major job markets like Dallas and Houston. Make the effort and you will see results.
